Lost Your High-Speed Signal?

Those of you with high-speed Internet access using both a modem and a router will often find that the signal is not available. You'll probably call SBC or some other hellish communication center and be on hold for several hours and then become disconnected when the technician finally picks up. You don't have to go through this hell. What they will tell you to do is the following: (1) turn off your computer; (2) unplug the power to the modem; (3) unplug the power to your router. Wait one minute. No cheating! Plug the power back into the modem and wait one minute! No cheating. Plug the power back in to the router and wait one minute. Turn the power back on to your computer and see if the signal has been restored. If not, you may want to check with neighbors if they use the same cable service or SBC/DSL to see if they're having a problem. It could be a neighborhood outage. If all this fails, then you'll have to call your service and say "It's not working!" but when they tell you to reset your modem you can save a lot of time and say "I've already done that!" Happy computing!
